How do you get a good ‘base’ tan?

Hi. You see I’m not that ‘untanned’ as such. But i just want a more consistent tan. Yeah. I have a kinda tan shirt and then a short tan shorts. How do I get just one color of tan? Instead of clothing / swimmers tan? Without going to a tanning bed, etc. or using tanning cream. Thanks
