Can I color my hair darker over my already colored medium brown?

By Baday, March 4, 2010 9:32 am

Ok, long story short, I tried to color my hair all over blonde. It didn’t turn out orange but it did come out a little yellow. I tried to tone it but that just made it a weird almost purpley/lavender color. I then tried to cover it up with Feria natural medium brown but now it looks really dull and almost gray. Can I go over my current hair color one more time with a slightly darker brown to make it look somewhat normal?

Hm you might want to go to a salon for that one, but if you can’t then I suggest just putting a darker brown over your brown and that should probably fix it.

    Yes, definitely.
You can always dye your hair darker, it’s getting it lighter that’s difficult.

Sure you can always go darker with hair color with out using a lifter. (perox, bleach) You may want to check the base color on the last hair color you used to make sure you dont turn your hair green! A safe way to do this at home is to use a semi permanant color that you like instead of a permanant hair color. You can find a lot of intresting colors at Sally’s Beauty Supply.

It depends how long ago you did this. I think you need hair color corrector which takes away the dye and and you can fix this problem but its better to go to a salon so they can do it for you. Its kind of pricey but it’ll turn out fine in the end.

Yes, but DO NOT use an ash color brown or your hair will turn gray, especially since it’s already dull.

Make sure that the color you get has gold in it. Maybe like 5G, or 6G. 5RB is really pretty too. If at all you can find a semi permanent color that would be less damaging on your hair. Also use cooler water on your hair when showering, that will help maintain your color longer.

the reason your hair went purple is because you either left the toner on too long or your hair was too dark yellow for the toner to lift to a nice shade of blonde. then im guessing the brown that you used had an ‘ash’ base that only added to the problem, resulting in the grey tone to your hair now. ‘purple toner adds ash to the hair, on top of a ‘ash’ dye).
if you buy a dye with a ‘warm’ tone or ‘red’ base will defiantly sort your problem out as its the opposite to ‘ash’ and will cover it nicely. good luck!
