What should I do to my hair before and after I dye it?

I’m planning on dying my hair this week sometime, and I was wondering what types of things I should do to my hair before I dye it myself.

Any tips?

  1. It sounds like it’s your first time dying your hair. . . . but make sure you use gloves and cover up your arms or any bare areas of your body because the dye won’t come off. Also put newspaper wherever you’re at because it would stain your floor and furniture permanently. I think it would be easier to dye when you section them with a clip. Don’t let the dye enter you eyes. Oh and it’s better if you don’t wash your hair before you dye it.

  2. Dont wash your hair before you dye it because the dye will just dry it out anyways, also You’ll want Vaseline to put around the line of your hair on your face so too much dye wont get on your skin, and old shirt that you don’t care if it gets ruined ( or no shirt at all to save you the trouble of removing it when it comes time to wash out the dye), & good conditioner because dying really dries out your hair!

  3. First make sure you don’t shampoo your hair that same day.
Step1Before using the dye, make sure to part the hair in four ways so it is easy to color the roots.
Step2Use plastic gloves to protect your hands from the dye smearing on it.
Step3Pour the liquid dye in the developer and shake it well for at least 15-20 seconds.
Step4Apply the dye to your hair starting from the front and go to the back of the head.

Read instructions included in the hair dye kit for safer results.

If you use a hair relaxer, wait at least two weeks to apply hair dye on your hair. It’s best to use semipermanent dye to prevent hair damage.

Most hair dyes has permanent, semipermanent and temporary. Choose carefully want you want or else you could be stuck with a hair color that you are not considering to have for a long period time.

Never color your hair more than you should. Try to stretch out each dye at least two-four month. Reapplying it more frequent than you should can cause hair loss or breakage hair strands.

Never dye your eyebrows. it’s not only harmful to your eyes but can cause blindness.

Do not wash your hair prior to the hair coloring. Your scalp is more prone to irritation.

  4. i’ve dyed alot so this is what i do. . dont wash it for about 24 hours. then i put on an old tshirt(it will probably get the dye on it), then put some rubber gloves on, the box should come with a pair. . then follow the directions it gives you to mix the stuff. then part your hair in sections. . i usually start from the front and work my way back. when your all done putting the dye in your hair, wait however long the directions say. then get into the shower and rinse your hair till the water is clear, then put the conditioner the dye came with in your hair and wait like 5+ min. to rinse it out. then towel dry your hair or let it air dry. you shouldnt wash your hair again for another 24 hours. hope this helped :]

  5. There’s not much you can do before you color it. Just don’t shower within 24 hours of coloring it. If you do, then rinse it with cold water before you color it to close up your hair cuticles. After you color it, use the conditioner it comes with, and rinse your hair with cold or lukewarm water. If you use water that is too warm your hair cuticles will open up and it will not hold the color as well, and will fade faster.
