How long after a cartilage piercing is done will it stay swollen?

I just got my cartilage pierced about 6 days ago and it’s still kind of swollen. It also hurts a bit if i try to move my ear (like when im cleaning it). This is normal right? I just want to make sure that it doesn’t get infected or anything…
But if it is infected what do i do? Is there a way to fight the infection without having to take out my piercing?

  1. when I got mine done a few years ago, mine was swollen for a week or too, and I got the gun to do it.
the swelling should go down soon, but you should try icing it a bit or a cool cloth. if its infected you should take out the ear ring, or else it could get worse. but keep cleaning it, it should help.

  2. Yeah thats all normal, mine hurt for a couple of weeks. The swelling may stay for up to another week, just keep cleaning it and you could put some ice on it to make the swelling go down.
I highly doubt its infected but if it was you would just have to keep cleaning it and be extra careful. You should never clean it more than twice a day as that makes infection more likely. Also, if it were to be infected, you shouldn’t take it anyway because it traps the infection.

    Good Luck :)

  3. Its normal for it to hurt for the first few weeks.
I got mine done about 3 months ago and it still hurts if i hit it with a hair brush or something
Mine never really swelled up though
You may wanna see a doctor

  4. So i just got my cartilage pierced this past saturday and it was fine the first 2 days. but the 3rd day it got kind of red and swollen and it is still that way. There is no pus or fluid coming out of it however. It hurts and sometimes makes it difficult to fall asleep at night. Will the swelling and pain go away soon or should i be concerned? I really dont want to take out my earring and waste my money when i don’t have to.

  5. Notaswingset that is a bad idea to take out the jewellry if it gets infected. The removal of the jewellry with not allow the infecting bacteria to drain out. Then, if the bacteria is trapped it is trapped inside your body. That is bad!
