Is February a good month for getting a tattoo?

By Baday, March 11, 2010 9:14 am

I am planning on getting a tattoo when I turn 18 which is next February and I don’t know if that is a good time of year to get one. I know that it is better to get a tattoo when you are not out in the sun and during the month of February I am usually inside. I don’t really go out when I am in School but when summer hits I am outside 24/7.

people get tattoo’s every day of the year in every state. I don’t think that you have anything to worry about!

I think that the issue is placement and healing.
Tattoos need to be uncovered as much as possible, but loose clothing can definitely be managed. Also, you need to protect your clothing from the seepage and ink coming from your tattoo in the 1st week.
    My suggestion is this:
Get your tattoo whenever you want it, but plan for the problems of that 2 week initial healing. You can wear a cheap light weight T shirt or tank top under your other clothing to cover and protect (something you might end up throwing away) or if your tat is somewhere else, figure a way to tape a piece of paper towel over it so that it would be between the tat and the clothing. Try this ahead of time so you can work out keeping it in place with movement etc.
Manly you need to think of the tattoo for what it is at 1st – and open wound. The 1st 3 days or so is critical, and the 1st 2-3 weeks care is vital for your tattoos end result. Religeously follow proper care. After 2 weeks is any needed touch ups or getting in new long term habits – sunblock for life.
    Good luck

I wouldn’t get one in the winter again but that’s because my job is outside and I have to wear a ton of clothes. But as long as you can wear loose clothing that wont stick to the scab and let it get air and heal up, anytime is fine.

Yeah, you’ve pretty much figured it out – February is one of the good months. Not as much so for me since I avoid the sun, but if you’re into the sun 24/7 best to avoid the temptation.

You’ll also have the added benefit that fewer people get their work done at this time (statistically speaking), so appointments will be easier to set up and the artist won’t feel as rushed.

The main issue is going to be where you live and where the tattoo is on your body. You don’t want to have anything rubbing on it while it heals so depending on where it’s going to be on your body you might get chilly. I got my first tattoo in February of 2006, it’s on my foot so I had to wear flip flops. It wasn’t a problem though because I live in the South. I got my third tattoo in February of 2007, it’s on my back so I ended up having to wear tank tops around the house which was a little chilly. It’s totally up to you though, you can make a tattoo work in any season.

    Good luck!!

I think that feburary is a good time to get a tattoo. If you are out alot in the summer you want to make sure you get it before you are out in the sun so it has plenty of time to heal, and also so it wont fade.
