How do I get rid of red irritation around new lip piercing?

I got my lip pierced 3 weeks ago and the swelling and bruising has all gone away but I still have a faint red irritation slightly around the outside of the piercing. I have a stud. I’ve been cleaning it put some wheat germ oil around it to soothe it but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows of a solution to make it go away?

  1. i always put saline on piercings. i just get the wal-mart brand of like nasal saline spray stuff. it always helps mine.

  2. I had my lip pierced not too long again.
I found the best solution is to apply Witch Hazel around the piercing and on the red area. This may sting slightly, but it helps relieve irritation.

  3. Sea salt solution is your answer! Take a cup of warm water and mix in 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt. Soak your piercing in for up to 5 minutes, then rinse completely off with clean water. Make sure it’s sea salt and not table salt. You can do the soaks a few times a day for as long as it takes. This is recommended for new and irritated piercings.

Add: the person below said to use dial handsoap and H2Ocean, but don’t! Dial handsoap with dry out your piercing and just make it more irritated. H2Ocean contains egg whites, and is not good for piercings. The best thing for you is sea salt.

  4. a non-scented antibacterial hand soap like dial and saline solution like H2Ocean which you can purchase where you got your piercing are two sure fire ways of cleaning and helping the piercing area.

make sure your hands are properly washed and sanitized before you your your piercing, with it being in your mouth it is open to plenty of germies already.

i would suggest using the had soap to clean the area in the AM when you wake up as you probably have some crusties, ever pick at these, just gently with your finger or a q-tip work the soapy lather around and rinse. Then spray a little with the H2Ocean, keeping your mouth shut, and mop up the area, you should use the sea salt solution at least twice daily. you can also find recipes for it online, but i find the spray can is just easier. i would do this for a week or two and if you don’t see improvemnt go talk to your piercer and get professional advice.

  5. stop with the wheat germ oil. part of the redness you’re experiencing comes from blood flow to the area from it healing, wheat germ oil stimulates blood flow.

its normal for there to still be some redness around your piercing at this point, you’ve still got at least 3-5 more weeks of healing. There really isn’t anything you can do to make the redness go away because it is part of healing. Give it a couple more weeks and it will go away on its own.

  6. i have the same problem right now.. i use dial and saline solution.. so idk why mines not getting better. i think im just impatient!!

  7. I got my lip pierced it was all good untill a redness and a lil bump appered i dont know what happen but i clean with that h20 but still hasnt gone down and theirs discolorationa around the lip piercing can some please help?
