Tattoo started peeling off but the color underneath is lighter?

I got my first tattoo 5 days ago and i know it is normal for it to peel of while healing, but i have gaps where the color is lighter. I haven’t peeled it off by hand, it just came off while i was putting Bepanthen (antibiotic cream) on it. Will the color change back shades after it is healed or am i left with gaps in my tattoo?
Please help!

  1. I would say you should go back to your tattoo artist. Have them check on the lighter patches.

  2. my boyfriends got 2 tattoos and both of his peeled where it peels the colour does look lighter, its mostly the cream peeling off not the tatoo ..but go back if its really bad after a couple more days

  3. umm my dad just got a tattoo and it did that u have to let it finish peeling and then go back to the place and let them touch it up!

  4. Some of the color can fill in a little more, but many times you will need a touch ouch to fill those gaps. Most reputable artists offer free touch ups for the first 6-12 months after you get a new tattoo. Everyone heals diffently so it’s impossible to predict exactly what the tattoo will look like after healing.

  5. it is lighter in spots because where that scabbed skin was there was blood underneath it which always makes your color look darker don’t get nervous let it take its course it should be fine I have 3 tattoos and it happens every time i always get nervous too because you think great i have this permanent thing and it doesnt look like it did at first but you have to remember that blood mixed in with it makes it so much darker im sure you will be fine and so will your next tattoo they are like chips you cant have just one!!!!! happy tattooing!!!

  6. You can’t tell how it’s really going to look until it’s completely done healing. Give it more time. If you’re still concerned, go back to your artist and see what’s up.

  9. same thing happend to me you probly was rubbing it in to hard, and u knocked a bit of the scabs off and some ink bleed out, its no biggy wait till its completley healed and see if you like the way it looks and if not go back to the artist and ask for a touch up in those spots most artists give at least 1 free touch up

  10. i myself has jst’ gotten a tattoo on my leg about a week ago. it’s also going through this peeling, decoloration thing, which i did not have with my last one(decoloration)that is and it’s really freak’n me out.i continue to use a&d on it but at the same time i have used other things such as coco butter and sha butter, because of the way if looks and feel, i’m unsure if chang’n different lotions and creams is good for it and what do u guys think is the best thing 2 use on it?

  11. Don’t use any scented lotions on it (like coco butter), because the fragrance can actually pull the color out while it’s still healing. I’ve also heard that fragrance can increase the risk of infection too. I would pick one product and stick with it, but make sure it’s gentile and fragrance free.

  12. First of All, to everyone, pick one moisturizer/cream to use over the whole process. From having 4 tattoos that look great, I recommend either A&D or this cream called H2Ocean tattoo cream. If you Apply too much cream or ointment during the healing process, the cream cakes up and forms bigger and thicker scabs, which suck up more ink and fall off. The body pushes out excess creams and ointments, so if you apply to much A&D, some ink may be pushed out as well. DON’T PICK. Starting on day 4 when the tattoo begins to peel, you have to be VERY GENTLE WITH IT!! After 2 weeks, if it looks too bad, go back to the tattoo artists and discuss it with them.

  13. I just had a tattoo on my left inner ankle, and i’ve been applying pure glycerine for almost 6 days now (since I got it). I haven’t been soaping it, rubbed or tapped it with a dry towel every after shower; I just gently dry the spot with a tissue paper then apply enough glycerine on the tat, wait for it to dry up a bit, before I put my pants on. I’ve been very careful not to rub it against anything, especially while walking with my shoes on, so I haven’t been wearing socks lately too. Hope my ink stays.
